More Than Just Pixels and Pedagogy
If you look at my resume, you will see a dedicated Instructional Designer with a passion for evidence-based strategy. You will see the graduate work, the software proficiency, and the deliverables.
But effective design doesn't happen in a vacuum—it is built on understanding people.
My approach to learning is deeply rooted in experiences you won’t find on a standard CV. My background involves navigating the complexities of neurodiversity—specifically working with my adult son and his community with brain injuries, Cerebral Palsy, and Autism. This didn't just teach me patience; it taught me the critical importance of accessibility and cognitive load. I learned early on that if a message isn’t received, the fault lies with the transmission, not the receiver. This drives my obsession with creating clear, intuitive, and accessible learning for everyone.
Grace Under Pressure
I also come from a background in emergency response. When you have worked in high-stakes environments, you quickly learn to prioritize. I don’t "sweat the small stuff," but I'm also extremely meticulous and detail-oriented.
In project management, this translates to a calm, steady hand on the wheel. When deadlines tighten, or scope creates friction, I don't panic—I pivot. I work diligently to bring projects to completion with focus and clarity, ensuring the team stays grounded and the goal remains in sight.
Where I Am Now
Today, I channel that resilience and empathy into Longbrake Learning Designs.
I am a lifelong learner and am continuously enrolled in courses. Currently, I am in my final course of my MEd in Curriculum and Instruction, and I am working toward my PMI-PMP (Project Management) Certification. I recently completed a course that deepened my Figma knowledge. I use tools like Figma to prototype intuitive interfaces and Articulate Storyline/Rise to build robust learning ecosystems.
I am not just building courses; I am solving problems. Whether it is helping teachers manage virtual classrooms or helping organizations streamline their training, I bring a unique blend of human understanding and technical precision to every project.
